So – “transparency” was the word for 2012 and is still THE word for 2013. Only this time, it will be used for see-through clothing, not primarily for government or big business.
Whoot ! Am I the lucky one!! Perhaps you are as well if you still have some gossamer clothing hanging in your closets. (Some are daring to call it lingerie or cover-ups!)
Last year, at an end-of-the-season sale, I got two transparent items: one orange trapeze sleeveless dress and another sheer Renoir type print, cut-out shoulder, Rock & Republic blouse. Considering they were coyote cheap, I simply couldn’t resist. Somehow I KNEW they would be “in” this spring. I was SO right.
This time, in an effort to better reveal our curves, they are coming around in lace over sheer or layers of sheer and opaque’s, with very little underneath except maybe some lovely lingerie. Those who know me well, know that this not an option for me. So, as one columnist suggested, we may use flesh colored or same tone undergarments in body suits, shorts, or camis. This will give the appearance of transparency.
Fashion writer, Christina Binkley, talks about the emphasis this spring on black and white combos and how this transparent trend will carry-over into “the office”: “Grab a tailored black jacket, pair it with a white blouse—or a transparent one with some pretty underpinnings—and toss on your favorite cropped slacks and little sandals. These are key pieces for spring .”
Can you say, beach cover-ups? Yup. Drag them out and creatively go for it! Or, if you sew, you can create your own opaque and sheer layers of fabrics such as featured by the designer, Stella McCartney. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324734904578244392088244174.html
Question: If you were to look at my spring-summer wardrobe, you might find . . .?
